About

David Steindl is a figurative painter working in Brooklyn, NY. Spanning landscape, image appropriation, and figurative compositions, David's paintings work with and push against genre conventions to cultivate ambiguity and open themselves to interpretation. While working security at an art museum during the pandemic, he spent hundreds of hours looking at paintings and fell in love with the medium and its rich history. He went on to earn a BFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in 2024, where he had a solo exhibition, “Hot Beer, Cold Planet” at SVA’s Flatiron Gallery. He attended a residency at Vermont Studio Center earlier this year. Recent group exhibitions include “Flower and I”, Flowing Space Gallery, New York, NY, “No Thing at All", L.O.S. Not Required, San Diego, CA, and "Re:Presentation" curated by Leigh Benke, SVA Flatiron Gallery, New York, NY. His work has been published in LadyGunn Magazine and 20/20 by SVA.
